Mother Lewis is a native of Los Angeles. She was baptized in the Holy Ghost at the age of nine and is a third generation member of the Church of God in Christ as well as a life-time member of her jurisdiction. Married to Bishop James A. Lewis since 1962 they are the proud parents of Elder James A. Lewis Jr and Supt Jeffrey M. Lewis (wife Floetta) who is now senior pastor of the New Antioch Church of God in Christ co-founded in their living room by Bishop and Mother Lewis in 1970.. Her pride and joy are her adult grandchildren Shannon and Jeffrey Jr.

She has served in administrative, teaching and leadership capacities from the inception of the New Antioch ministry and is presently the Prayer and Bible Band President/Teacher. Mother Lewis was honored as Outstanding Supervisor of the Year by both the National Business and Professional Women Federation and the National Education Department of the Church of God in Christ.  Her community efforts in Los Angeles earned her recognition by the Mayor for her extensive outreach work in Juvenile Halls, Street Ministry and Drug Rehabilitation Centers. Local Los Angeles newspapers honored her as “Woman of the Year” and the First Ladies Community Impact award.

Mother Lewis has also rendered distinguished service on the District and Jurisdictional levels and was selected in May 1988 by Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop Charles E. Blake to serve as the Jurisdictional Supervisor. She received her appointment in November 1988 from the National Department of Women Dr. Mattie McGlothen General Supervisor. Bishop Joe L. Ealy is currently her Jurisdictional Prelate.

Many new innovative programs have been implemented over the past twenty-six years. Among the most significant accomplishments is the completion in March 2002 of the 41-unit Hale Morris Lewis Senior Complex. The $4.7 million development is operated by the 501c3 Southern California COGIC Economic Development Corporation where Mother Lewis is President and CEO. This housing site is the focal point of an annual community distribution of food, clothing, toys, and health/hygiene products. Weekly bible studies, computer classes, quarterly health-screening and senior awareness workshops are all part of life-enhancing services.

A servant-leader Mother Lewis has created monthly urban initiative workshops, annual gatherings for spiritual and intellectual empowerment along with four weekly prayer lines which focus on different categories of the constituency of women. Not only a renowned prayer warrior she is an anointed writer and has authored “The Christian Woman’s Guide to Church Protocol and Saintly Decorum.” She was the managing editor of curriculum guides and handbooks for the Jurisdictional School of Licensing for Missionaries; Regional & District Missionaries; Aspiring, Deaconess and Evangelist Missionaries; Clergy Wives and Auxiliary & Unit Leaders.

Her educational achievements include an Associate of Arts degree from West Los Angeles Community College, Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from California State University at Los Angeles. She matriculated at Fuller Theological Seminary and holds a Master of Arts degree in Theology as well as an honorary Litterum Doctorate degree from Southern California School of Ministry.

She serves on the national level as a member of the Presiding Bishop’s Senior Executive Planning Commission. In April 2013 she was elevated by the Presiding Bishop to Assistant General Supervisor and Chairperson of Executive Business Affairs for the Department of Women under the leadership of the General Supervisor Mother Willie Mae Rivers. She also serves in the National Department of Women as a member of the Executive Board, International Marshal, Chairperson Program Committee and Chairperson of the Special Convention Assistance Committee. Mother Lewis is a member of the Board of Trustees C H Mason Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA
